From Cracker Jill to Driven Women: Celebrating How Far We’ve Come

This morning, as I stood in the check-out line, I found myself face-to-face with a piece of history.

There, nestled among the usual suspects of impulse buys, was a bag of Cracker Jill snacks—yes, Cracker Jill, the sister to the iconic Cracker Jack. A symbol of how far we’ve come, but also a reminder of the journey still ahead.

I poked the woman standing next to me and pointed at the bag, “See this? How far we’ve come and how far we still must go.”

She looked, laughed, and nodded. “You’re right! Who would’ve thought? But I guess it’s not the healthiest choice for an athlete!”

We both chuckled at the irony—candy-coated popcorn, the last thing you’d find on a champion’s training table, but now rebranded as a symbol of progress for women in sports. It’s as if we’re celebrating our achievements with a snack that says, “You’ve made it, now have some sugar.”

As we continued chatting, our conversation took a delightful turn. She told me about how she loves reading books with strong female characters, marveling at the fact that “not so long ago, women couldn’t even own land!” I nodded with enthusiasm, “We couldn’t have bank accounts!” I added. She shook her head in disbelief, “Yeah, and if our husbands died, we were shipped off to another male relative.”

It struck me how easy and natural this exchange was—a conversation between two women who, only a few decades ago, might have been silently navigating a very different world. And here we were, connecting over Cracker Jill, of all things, laughing at the absurdity of progress wrapped in caramel and peanuts.

But here’s the thing: that moment of connection was more than just a light-hearted exchange in a grocery store. It was a microcosm of what I want for women everywhere—a space where we can share, laugh, and reflect on our journey.

It’s why I created MistressMind Assemblies and Driven Women Assemblies—safe, confidential spaces where self-actualizing women come together to launch their authentic selves.

In these virtual sanctuaries, women gather not just to celebrate how far we’ve come, but to lift each other as we go further. We share our dreams, we amplify each other’s voices, and we take those small but significant steps toward our aspirations.

Cracker Jill might be a quirky symbol of progress, but the real victory lies in the connections we make and the support we give each other as we continue to break barriers.

Whether it’s through a chance encounter in a check-out line or a dedicated assembly of driven women, our progress is both a celebration and a call to action.

So, here’s to Cracker Jill, to the laughter shared with a stranger, and to the powerful connections we’re building every day. We’ve come a long way, and together, we’ll go even further.
