Well, remember our “Unmasking the Myth…” article?
I have a bit of a follow-up, and buckle up—it’s one part awe, one part head-scratching, and a whole lot of reflection.
Let me set the scene.
I’m tuning into an investigative episode on Colorado Public Radio (shout-out to CPR and NPR for being the gems they are), and the show was called Protect and Serve—or something along those lines.
The topic: our trusty police forces. All but one of the officers interviewed said their mission is genuinely “to protect and serve.”
I could feel the weight on these heroes as they were asked, yet again, why the public’s trust is shaky. It was sad. I mean, really sad.
These are people who signed up to help, but, thanks to a mountain of issues, they’re met with skepticism and forced to swim with big, bad sharks.
As I’m listening, my heart breaks a little for them.
But then, as I often do when I start thinking, I shook my noggin’—and wondered why bad news dominates our global awareness.
Not just in terms of social media or any media, but as a reflection of humanity’s pendulum swinging hard one way or the other.
Here’s my take: we’re nearing critical mass. Our blinders are coming off.
We are evolving—painfully, brutally—but growing as a species, as we must.
The inequities, lies, and hatred are being laid bare, and as mind-blowing and heart-wrenching as it all is, we have a choice in how we respond.
I realized, with a good dose of empathy, that this imbalance between us—between everything—is a symptom of being personally off-balance.
It’s our human condition. And we’re witnessing it on a global stage.
The re-structuring happening now is massive.
From mere survival to enlightenment, humans are sharing their stories with more bravery than ever. YAY for that! Every Story matters because each one of us matter 😊
I think that’s why we have all this amazing technology at our fingertips—it’s because we’re ready (or, at the very least, we’re provoking those who use it for harm so that we may identify them and be proactive in their assaults).
Self-Actualizing Humans, especially WOMEN, are finding our voices, and guess what? We’re using them!
Naturally, those who’ve been calling the shots—trying to control others—are watching their so-called power slip away, and they hate it.
So, what do they do? Distract us with lies and nonsense, of course.
But you know what? The pendulum of human evolution is finding its center.
True equity, for all, is within reach.
We’re in the thick of it now, and whenever I feel that surge of grateful knowing and humility, it’s like electricity buzzing through my body.
I can’t help but feel all the love for humanity, the amazing humans I’ve connected with and those I’ve yet to meet.
Sometimes, I get so giddy I blurt out, “Humans are sooo good!” with a silly grin and a giggle.
But when we choose fear over love, we dim our light. Without light, darkness prevails—ugh.
So, there I was, listening to the CPR program, feeling like I was choosing calm and rational peace, trusting that “everything seeks balance.”
I believed that I was fear-free, knowing that soon, our heroes who choose to protect and serve would finally get the support they need to successfully navigate their mission.
Ha! Turns out, my personal, unconscious fear had other plans.
Picture this: I almost never get SPAM in my inbox. But within 24 hours, I get a ransom threat—no joke.
One of those ridiculous “give us money or else” emails, with just enough truth in it to get under my skin.
When I learned more about the challenges facing our police forces, it seemed to unearth a deeper, more personal fear.
If the system that’s supposed to protect me is struggling, where does that leave my sense of security?
It felt like this realization might have triggered the manifestation of fear in a very tangible form—a ransom email that hit close to home and made me question my safety.
It was as if the universe was giving me a jarring reminder of the fragility of that sense of security.
Even though I managed to laugh it off and handle it rationally, it made me confront my own vulnerabilities and the uneasy truth about the reliability of protection and trust.
I certainly don’t want to experience violence just to examine hidden fears, so I am deeply grateful for the SPAM threat ~ Yeah, it got the job done.
With everything I’ve learned lately, especially from CPR’s episode, one thing stands out: most police officers truly do want to protect and serve.
The problem? They’re handcuffed by outdated training, lack of accountability, and a general absence of oversight. It’s chaos, and it’s affecting everyone.
I say we run bigger, louder campaigns to highlight the heroes among them—the ones doing the work that probably feels routine but is anything but.
We need real Hero Training, more transparency, better accountability, and improved communication across the board.
And in the meantime, I’m all in on exploiting technology with heart and connection to all of you. 💖
